(I love this journal entry. When I first read it, my initial reaction was, “DUH!!” But, then I realized this entry is exactly why I have my students journal. I have no doubt teachers have told this student that math is about patterns and prior knowledge is critical, but it wasn’t until this student came to this *discovery* themself, and it was internalized, did it have meaning.)
